Pattern of Thyroid Illness in a Tertiary Hospital in Nepal

Introduction: Thyroid dysfunction is an important endocrine disorder worldwide among which hypothyroidism, attributed to environmental deficiency of iodine. Congenital hypothyroidism one the most common preventable causes intellectual disability worldwide. Hypothyroidism easily treated and timely detection treatment could reduce adverse fetal maternal outcome. The aim our study find prevalence thyroid illness in a tertiary health care center Nepal. Methods: This was descriptive, cross-sectional carried out Department Biochemistry Shree Birendra Hospital, Chhauni, Kathmandu over period five months from March 2021 July 2021. We selected 1000 patients with symptoms suggestive disorders. Detailed history obtained free triiodothyronine (fT3), thyroxine (fT4) stimulating hormone (TSH) estimation done Siemens CP Chemiluminescence Immunoassay analyzer. Data were entered Microsoft Excel managed SPSS version 20. Results: Most presented puffiness face, hoarseness voice, whereas weight loss restlessness predominant features hyperthyroid patients. In study, hyperthyroidism 16.0% 9.5% respectively. Conclusions: female population. found that subclinical more prevalent reproductive age group.
